Helena Besovic Named Mizzou Tennis Assistant Coach

July 11, 2008

Helena Besovic has been named assistant tennis coach for the Mizzou Women's Tennis Team. Besovic comes to Missouri from Penn State, where she had served as the full-time assistant coach.

Prior to Penn State, Besovic was the most decorated player to ever play for Texas Christian University. Ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation, she was a two-time All-American for TCU.

"Helena is a great addition for us," said MU Head Coach Blake Starkey. "She brings credentials, leadership and a focus that will be great for our team. Having competed at such a high level, we were really impressed with her knowledge of the game. She knows tennis inside and out, is a proven player and an even better instructor. Our players, as well as the members at the Green Tennis Center who take lessons, will really benefit from having someone of Helena's caliber."

"Graduate school was important to me," said Besovic. "Tennis has given so much, and I am excited to have a chance to give back. I have heard good things about these girls, that they are hard workers. I am excited about meeting people here, the first day of practice, and helping this team."
